RISING city band Spacemaid have been blamed for throwing a party at which Noel Gallagher allegedly led boozy revellers on a late-night hotel binge.
According to a national newspaper, the group joined the Oasis star in the hotel toilets for a singalong of Sandie Shaw's hit ''Puppet On A String''.
The paper also claimed the police were called out after one partygoer performed ''a death-defying handstand'' on a glass table.
But Spacemaid guitarist Mat Tennant (24), of Salisbury Street, Kingston upon Hull, told the Mail the truth was not quite as exciting.
He confirmed the group were holding an after-show party at the Columbia Hotel, West London, after playing a gig at the capital's 100 Club.
And although Noel Gallagher was in the hotel bar, Mat claimed Spacemaid did not actually join him in the toilets for a singalong.
''We are the ringleaders of terrible parties now are we?'' said Mat.
''That's stretching the truth a bit, I think. It's not quite the way it went.
''Noel Gallagher was just hanging about. We were in the bar and people were obviously drinking quite a lot.
''At the end the police came in and moved the people that weren't staying at the hotel.''
But reports of the handstand did contain an element of truth.
''It was probably near a glass table rather than on it,'' claimed Mat.
Spacemaid's latest single ''Baby Come On'' entered the national charts at number 70 on Sunday after receiving daily airplay on Radio One.
The group plan to release their debut album ''Supercool'' this summer.
